How we check

Every project is checked by hand against at least two public sources — company newsrooms, regulators, trade press. No commercial databases.

Each card shows its sources and the date we checked them (every project in this set: on or after 2026-10-08). We re-check every month; a project that finishes or is cancelled leaves the tour.

Companies appear as sourced project facts only. Reported risks are shown as reported. The discipline lists are our own inference and say so. The small dots are other projects from public datasets — context, not checked by us.

    Why we watch it

The single largest LNG capacity build-out under way anywhere, with Technip Energies — a company legally headquartered in the Netherlands — as lead EPC contractor on both expansion phases; years of engineering, commissioning and construction-supervision demand still ahead as later trains follow NFE Train 1.

    Phase in full, as reported

construction / commissioning (first NFE train ready to start operation in November 2026; remaining NFE trains and NFS under construction after a war-related work suspension in early 2026)

Reported risk in full, as reported

War-related work stop in early 2026. Iranian strikes on Ras Laffan and Mesaieed halted NFE/NFS work and damaged two existing LNG trains (about 17% of Qatar's capacity, repairs up to three years); disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz makes the timing of later NFE trains uncertain.

Who builds it as stated by the sources

    Operator / developerQatarEnergy

    • QatarEnergyoperator/developer
    • Technip EnergiesEPCC contractor (with Chiyoda) for North Field East onshore facilities — 4 mega-trains of 8 MTPA each; also working NFS with CCC
    • Chiyoda CorporationEPCC joint-venture partner with Technip Energies on North Field East
    • CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company)partner with Technip on North Field South

Key dates as stated by the sources

    NFE full startup
Uncertain — timing of later NFE trains depends on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz
    NFS startup target
    H2 2028
    NFE startup
First NFE train ready to start operation November 2026; first LNG expected Q1 2027 (QatarEnergy CEO: first half of 2027)
